Signs of Spring

Gardening takes patience and at long last I got another reward yesterday. These rewards rarely come all at once and while my impatience for perfection would argue otherwise, perhaps it's because they only slowly unfold to us that they are truly recognized.

I feel like the lessons I'm reminded of in the garden can also be applied in many other areas of my life; relationships, home, career, family matters- they rarely seem to align harmoniously with one another and I can become at bit compulsive in my quest to make all those jagged little pieces fit together into one happy little puzzle.

But then... suddenly, there are moments of clarity where despite some measure of chaos, all feels somehow renewed and right with the world again. It's these moments that we must stand still in and and take notice of and this morning, I'm doing just that.

Happy weekend to you.

Happy Weekend // A Great Week In Blog Land

Source

Ah... the weekend. It's finally here.

I expect it to be busy, but in the best possible way. We're getting started on building out the wood screen and I see a little puttering around, planting, staining, making plans over the coming days as well. After months spent dreaming of progress, there shall finally be some around the house once again.

But we're leaving behind a great week out there in blog land as well. Here are a few standouts that caught my attention.

+ Kristen's Heart.Love video. Did you see it? It was one of the sweetest things I saw this week.

+ Speaking of sweet, did you see the girls luncheon Albertina shared? That flowerless chocolate cake!

+ I've really been enjoying Bailey's recaps on how her new Houston home came together. But as one pulling a relatively new house together myself,  this fearless read last week really hit home for me in so many ways. Did it do the same for you?

+ Erin always has the best ideas! She shared the creative way she's leaving love notes behind for her husband while traveling for work.

+ I'm not sure there is anyone who does not love Bri Emery. She shared what was in her business lady toolbox on Design Sponge this week and something she said gave me a little punch to my gut.

Do you know your own value, and are you prepared to assert that to others?

...Great advice for anyone- business startup or not.

Happy weekend friends.

Leaning + Layered Artwork

This weekend I puttered around the house with my coffee cup, arranging and re-arranging. It was one of those lazy, rainy weekends, the kind constructed of loose plans, a full fridge and a trip or two to the movie theater, you know, if we kinda sorta felt like going. I love those weekends. There are too few of them.

"You're so funny. You are always moving stuff around."

For someone who finds true change a little unsettling, I'm certainly not one to shy away from switching things up around the house. But by Sunday afternoon, after two days of walking around in my yoga pants, pulling things off walls and shifting books and all that stuff around, I could tell The Mister was not finding the same contentment in all my activity. I think he just wants it done, even if he knows deep down that it probably will never be.

That fact is argument alone for leaning the artwork against the wall in our home rather than hanging it. Indecision makes for a lot of holes in these freshly painted walls.

1 | 2 | 3

I like the ever-evolving, collected look of it anyway. It certainly gives the room dimension and even as a collection, I find that I stop and take notice of an individual piece in a way I might not have if it were otherwise hung on the wall.

Is This Too Much?

I got a little surprise from my fella. Apparently we have a date with the Symphony tonight. They're screening Casablanca set to live orchestral music at Segerstrom.

I think Bogie and Bergman call for a little sprucing up, don't you?

Here's wishing some happy surprises come your way this weekend as well.

My Week{end} With Marilyn

Via

Have you seen it? I haven't yet. Hoping my schedule this weekend allows me to see what His week with Marilyn was really all about. Michelle Williams is darling nonetheless and I'm anxious to see her take on one of my faves.

I'm also hoping for a little sleep, time in the garden, maybe more painting and some little treasure to uncover at a local thrift store. Look, I even worked up a playlist for some weekend background jams:

Makin' it count friends. Seems like it's been a long one this week.

Scenes from the Weekend

Scouted the Long Beach Flea for project supplies and home accessories.

Thought these baskets would have made some dramatic pendant shades.

Daydreamed about reupholstering this dining set. I'm on the hunt for one to finally furnish our vacant dining room.

Fought for my space on the couch while trying to watch the Golden Globes.

Soaked up some sunshine with more citrus.

Made progress on the side yard.

Saw a band called "The Cameltones". No joke.

Filed my passport renewal. Travel is in my future.
