Decorating With // Vintage Loving Cup

For quite some time now, I've been enamored with vintage trophies. Maybe it's the decades old silver patina that gets to me or perhaps it's the engraving itself, the dates and names of people who no doubt smiled when it was placed in their hands. There is something about a silver loving cup that says winner like no resin trophy of today could ever convey.

I've been thinking about some unique ways to incorporate a small collection at Holtwood House. Of course, they would fulfill two of the ingredients in my overall design recipe, infusing both a touch of masculinity and history into our space. Earliest plans called for a grouping above the glassware cabinet in the dining room. But in the end, we took that cabinet all the way to the ceiling which left no room. While shelved collections are pretty to look at, I'm circling around the idea of using them elsewhere, perhaps in the kitchen like this:

I like the idea of wooden spoons, pastry brushes or even just our flatware coming out of the drawers and onto the countertop- sort of function forward in our own personal food lab. This type of styling plays a little 'rustic', a counter to all my mid-century mindedness. A good balance and mix of styles always make rooms a little more interesting anyway.

Then there is always this idea, which would make total sense with all of the succulents laying around these parts:

The glossy black bases added to each of the cups above help unify and polish the collection. I see this styling easily at home in our entryway, a bedroom or a bathroom. It could work just as nicely as the centerpiece on our dining table as well.
