Decked Out Airstream
Now this is my kind of camping. "Nomadic-luxe". Yeah, I can totally do that.
Back in August, the NY Times ran a feature story on Los Angeles Interior Designer Rachel Horn's decked out 1969 Airstream, complete with a drool-worthy slideshow of the trailer's renovated interiors. She and her business partner husband Justin Kreizel picked up the near-original condition Airstream off Craigslist last year for a mere $5,000, which quite honestly was an awe-inducing feat in and of itself. But then they gutted it and outfitted it with luxurious Moorish inspired textiles and accessories, Corian countertops, a cappuccino machine and even a re-circulating air conditioning unit that truly makes it a comfortable refuge anywhere the open road will take them.
I love how the article highlighted some of the challenges the Designer faced when renovating the 180 sq. foot space. Materials she originally had her heart set on, like bamboo flooring and Carrera marble countertops, had to be ditched based on the trailer's weight requirements. Horn also typically designs spaces in excess of 10,000 sq. feet, a notable difference compared to the limited area the Airstream afforded. Still, they achieved a luxurious hotel on wheels, complete with kitchen, bedroom and full bath.
All enough to make a road warrior out of any homebody.
